Superman is seen as a archetype for a superhero. He has a combination of abilities that make him influential to every person that reads about him, or watches movies with superman as a main character. He firstly appears in American comic books published by DC Comics. He was created by two high school students from Cleveland, Ohio, in 1933, writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster.
Superman possesses extraordinary powers, which nearly make him an unstoppable force. At the beginning his superpowers were limited to an extend. But through time writers have changed his abilities and made him stronger. He has the ability to fly into the sun unharmed, he would fly around earth when he wants to clear his head or go in outer space in case there are meteors coming towards earth to stop them.He also could fly to other worlds and galaxies and even across universes with relative ease.
At first it was stated that Superman’s abilities derived from his Kryptonian heritage, which made him eons more evolved than humans. But, later on this was changed. Now the source of his powers is based upon the establishment of Krypton’s gravity as having been stronger than that of the Earth.
Even tho he is Superman and nearly unstoppable, he has vulnerabilities. Superman is vulnerable to green Kryptonite, mineral debris from Krypton transformed into radioactive material by the forces that destroyed the planet. Exposure to green Kryptonite radiation nullifies Superman’s powers and immobilizes him with pain and nausea, prolonged exposure will eventually kill him. The antidote is lead, which block the radiation, but also blocks Superman’s ability to see throw it with his X-ray vision.
